Kirkpatrick Heights – Greenwood Master Plan Update
Over the last 12 months, the City of Tulsa, PartnerTulsa and an 11-member Leadership Committee have been involved in a community-led planning process to create a vision and framework for the redevelopment of 56-acres of publicly owned land in the Kirkpatrick Heights and Greenwood areas of North Tulsa. Known as Our Legacy, Our Community, the final draft of the Kirkpatrick Heights and Greenwood Site Master Plan was presented to the public for review and comment on October 17. The public comment period concluded on October 31 and the Plan was approved in compliance with the PlaniTulsa Comprehensive Plan by the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on November 16.
After engaging more than 1,000 residents and hosting more than 40 events, including community meetings, workshops, charrettes, place-based pop ups, small focus groups, online feedback, and interviews, the 186-page document seeks to reflect the values and desires of the community, including those closest to the history and legacy of Greenwood.
Leadership Committee Co-Chairpersons, Dr. Lana Turner-Addison and Ashley Philippsen wrote, “We have worked diligently to lead a collaborative and community-based participatory process that accounts for our shared and collective sense of history, while imagining a bold, dynamic, and transformational vision for the future. We believe the vision represented and detailed in this plan will serve as a creative force for the sustainable, inclusive development of the Kirkpatrick Heights / Greenwood area of North Tulsa and inspire present and future generations of North Tulsans for decades to come.”
The Plan was presented to the Tulsa Authority for Economic Opportunity Board of Trustees on November 17 and will be presented formally to the Tulsa City Council in the coming weeks. A final celebration open house is currently planned for December 10, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Fulton Street Books & Coffee.
